Visual Extravaganza

Ever been there to witness the pomp and pageantry. Well I havent, but indeed will catch up some day. The traditional percussions,The caparisoned elephants, Kudamattom( a sequenced and swift changing of coloured umbrellas), the mindblowing display of Fireworks all these and much more add to the Thrissur Pooram.

The percussion includes the Panchavadyam, Pancharimelam and Pandimelam to my knowledge. The best of the elephants are on display. The fireworks provide a grand finale to the festival. A healthy competion is what it is all about between two temples Thiruvambady and Paramekavu at the Thekinkadu Maidanam, one trying to outdo the other in this flashy exhibition. The Police ,they have a terrible time, traffic goes haywire, crowds come in thousands from all parts of the globe. Talk to any Thrisurite and they will never stop once they hear the topic on air is Thrissur Pooram,my dad being one of them.

This Year the Pooram was celebrated on Sunday(May 7th) with all it's traditional gusto and spectacular ingredients, except fireworks display.Heard it must be possibly the first one of the century without the dazzling fireworks.

Catch you there next year!!
